Chocolate lovers take heed – this deep, rich cashew-based spread is simply sumptuous and the perfect alternative to a sugar-laden chocolate spread. Carob has been used as a much healthier caffeine-free alternative to chocolate for hundreds of years and, as well as providing that lovely warm feeling that a good bar of chocolate will on a winter’s evening, is full of nutrients. But you won’t be thinking about the health benefits as you tuck into a jar of this. You’ll be thinking about the good feeling you get as you swirl it into a warm bowl of porridge, or slather it on a hot crumpet. You’ll be dipping chunks of banana into it for a lunchtime ‘dessert’ and even adding it to savoury dishes, to give an extra bit of oomph. A little goes a long way, so it’s safe to take the spoon to the jar and just enjoy with a cuppa.
The cashews are roasted in a small Bristol kitchen for an earthy flavour; there’s just enough of a nutty crunch and the coconut lends a subtle slightly sweet note to balance the rich Carob.
